The village of Parçay-les-Pins is just a pleasant 10 minute stroll along a country lane from La Croix du Gué. Here you'll find the boulangerie (bakers), post office and a small but well stocked supermarket selling English newspapers! Parçay-les-Pins was the home of the renowned French sculptor, and contemporary of Rodain, Jules Debois. His work is now displayed in the museum of Parçay-les-Pins (voted ‘Musée de France/Museum of France’ in 2001). The village is also home to 'Chez Jules' a café/snackbar, named after the village's famous son, where you can sit inside or outside and enjoy both hot and cold food and a wide selection of beers and wines from the region. A larger supermarket with a fuel station is an easy 10-minute drive away, in the village of Vernoil. There is also a great stables here where you can enjoy horse riding in the forests and lanes hearabouts. Noyant has a buzzing weekly market of fresh local produce, as well as clothes and household goods each Friday morning. Saumur is approximately 25-minutes by car from La Croix du Gué, nd is home to a beautifully restored chateau which overlooks the town and the Loire below. There are many wine tours available in Saumur, and more information can be given if requested. Saumur has many restaurants and cafés where you can indulge in traditional French cuisine, after a day of shopping in the various clothing boutiques. The closest large cities are Angers, Le Mans or Tours which are all under an hours drive. There is much to visit in both of these cities, and there are many brochures available for your information in the gite. Other activities in the area include golfing, tennis, canoeing/kayaking, horse riding, zoo’s and theme parks.
